The Milwaukee Summerfest begins in late June and the epicenter of this one of a kind music festival is Marcus Amphitheater, a 23,000 capacity outdoor stage that is designed in such a way that you can hear bands playing from I-43. In the past, Marcus has hosted headliners such as The Black Keys, Eric Church, Toby Keith, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and the like. But this year, in true Summerfest fashion, Marcus Amphitheater has outdone itself.
Wednesday June 27th marks the start of the best 11 days of summer, and it is only appropriate that Rascal Flatts rings in the inaugural concert. Hailing from Columbus, OH, Rascal Flatts is one of the few country bands that are liked by non-country music loversand that says a lot. Celebrating the April 2012 release of their new album Change, Rascal Flatts is sure to give fest-goers a very memorable experience.
Foo Fighters returns to Milwaukee on Thursday June 28th with special guest Silversun Pickups. Foo Fighters, named after the UFOs and various aerial phenomena that were reported by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II, were founded by Nirvana drummer in Dave Grohl in 1994 and have been rocking ever since. Their unique beginnings are almost as unique as their sound. Combining post-grunge with alternative rock, it is hard to meet someone who doesnt like the Foo Fighters.
Kelly Clarkson and the legendary group Train will perform at Summerfest on Friday, June 29th. Kelly Clarkson has the distinction of being the very first winner of American Idol back in 2002. One of Clarksons most memorable singles was A Moment Like This which was ending up breaking many records for its popularity. Train is originally from San Francisco and they have been around since 1994. Their most recent album is California 37 and band members include: Patric Monahan at vocals, Jimmy Stafford at guitar and vocals and Scott Underwood master of drums and percussion.
Lady Antebellum and special guest Darius Rucker take the stage on Saturday night, June 30th at the Marcus Amphitheatre. Lady Antebellum had its humble beginnings only a few years ago in 2006, and this band has been going strong ever since. This group made a guest debut on Jim Brickmans single Never Alone in 2007. Since then, Lady Antebellum has won awards for Top New Group by the Academy of Country Music and New Artist of the Year by the Country Music Asssociation. Members of Lady Antebellum are: Hilary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood. Darius Rucker is the former frontman of Hootie and the Blowfish who later carved out a successful country career of his own.
The Beach Boys will headline at the Marcus Amphitheatre on Sunday, July 1st. They are celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2012 and theyve included a visit to Milwaukee on their itinerary.
Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper take the stage at Summerfest on Wednesday, July 4th. Iron Maiden has is a hard rock band whose beginnings can be traced back to 1975 in the UK. Over the years, this legendary band has produced a total of 35 albums. Alice Cooper has been performing to the delight of his fans for over 40 years. Cooper really puts on a show and concertgoers can look forward to boa constrictors, electric chairs, fake blood and guillotines as part of his unique act.
The Zac Brown Band is the featured act for Thursday, July 5th at Summerfest. This well-liked country band is headed by Zac Brown and Atlanta is their home base. The Zac Brown Band was the proud winner of the Academy of Country Musics Top New Vocal Duo or Group in 2009. Some of their past No.1 tunes on the charts include: Knee Deep, Chicken Fried, and Colder Weather.
The popular boy band, Big Time Rush, is slated for Friday night, July 6th. Big Time Rush became popular in 2009 as a new boy band who also happened to have a hit series on Nickelodeon. Their first album BTR which came out in October, 2010 went right up to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and with sales of over 500K copies it was also certified gold by the RIAA. As of May, 2012, this popular band has been referred to by the critics as the group who brought boy bands back to the mainstream era.
Aerosmith and Cheap Trick will be headlining at Summerfest on Saturday, July 7th. Aerosmith has often been referred to as Americas Greatest Rock and Roll Band and The Bad Boys from Boston. American Idol judge, Steven Tyler, is the talented frontman of this legendary rock band. Cheap Trick, another legendary band from the 70s, hails from Rockford, IL and they have sometimes been called American Beatles in the Japanese press.
Neil Diamond will perform on Sunday, July 8th in Milwaukee at the Marcus Amphitheatre. He is an American Legend with a career that spans more than 50 years. He is now a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he has been referred to as the third most successful artist of all time behind Elton John and Barbra Streisand. Some of his most beloved songs over the years include: Cracklin Rosie, Desiree, and Song Sung Blue.
