The goal of this program is to improve the management of traumatic venous injuries and penetrating vascular trauma. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:

1. Recommend the appropriate surgical modality for traumatic venous injuries.

2. Utilize adjuncts after venous repair to improve outcomes.

3. Prioritize control of bleeding in penetrating vascular trauma.

4. Recognize the indications for surgery in injuries to the neck or chest.

5. Determine when exploratory surgery is indicated for injuries to the abdomen.

Smith, MD, Assistant Professor, Departments of Anesthesiology and Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine and David Hardman, MD, MBA, Professor of Anesthesiology and Vice Chair for Professional Affairs, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine.
